You might begin your tour at the Untermarkt (lower market square). Even though it's called that, it is the highest point in town and is dominated by the towers of Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church). You can enter through the south door (usually) daily from 9am to 5pm. Built in the Rhineland Romanesque style, it is known for its Chorraum or chancel, one of the masterpieces of 13th-century decorative architecture. The church was built between 1170 and 1250. In its present form, it was finally completed in 1467.
