Restaurants in Giglio
The majority of the island's good restaurants are in Castello, though there are a number of locales in Porto with lovely waterfront atmosphere. Campese is more casual, with a few pizzerie and take-away joints.
The local wine is Ansonaco, a robust amber-colored white with high alcohol content (17%). And no wonder it's hardy: Since time immemorial, the grapes have been grown on clifflike exposed terraces that are battered by everything this marine climate throws their way. Ansonaco is not a wine, as the Gigliesi point out, for signorine, and not to be consumed by the liter carafe -- trust me on this one. Have a glass to start the evening, and then switch to something a bit more tame.

Arcobalena
The Carfagna family has been running this adorable little spot, on an alley in Castello, for 2 decades. Their formula is simple -- high-quality fresh ingredients, homemade everything, and great service. Arcobalena has plenty to offer in the way of fish, but it's also an excellent…$$Around the Island - Seafood
Da Maria
This is one of the most elegant restaurants on the island (along with Da Santi), specializing in fresh seafood and homemade stuffed pastas like ravioli with shrimp. The tagliatelle alla granseola are perfection, letting the subtle flavor of the crab shine through without any…$$Around the Island - Seafood
Da Santi
Its panoramic dining room, with a huge glassed-in veranda that seems suspended in mid-air, would be enough to sell you on this place. The cuisine also happens to be breathtaking, so come hungry. Start with an antipasto of octopus and shrimp in balsamic vinegar, then try a splurge-y…$$Around the Island - Take-Away
Forno di Cristina dal 1959
Bread, pastry, pizza -- if you're looking to load up on delicious carbs, this busy little bakery in Campese is your spot. It's counter-service only, where pizza is sold by the slice, not the whole pie, and you can also get plain focaccia -- perfect for eating on the beach while the…$Around the Island - Gigliese
Il Grembo
This restaurant has an obsession with detail and top-quality ingredients, as evident in antipasti like seafood salad -- a tantalizing array of fresh shrimp, octopus, calamari, and parsley, glistening with lemon and the best olive oil you've ever tasted. Pastas (like taglierini with…$$Around the Island - Gigliese
La Vecchia Pergola
A pretty terrace on the water, cucina casalinga (simple, home-style cooking), and warm ambience make this the top choice for a meal at Porto. Local fresh seafood is offered, as are plates from mainland Maremma, Tuscany's cowboy country (so, they have great meat, too). Desserts are…$$Around the Island - Pizza
Pizzeria da Tony
Like an old friend, Tony's is cozy, buzzy, and friendly. On the beach in Campese, the pizzeria features Roman-style pies, cooked in a wood-burning oven. Try the seafood pizza (with calamari, mussels, and other marine critters), stick to classics like the margherita (tomato,…$Around the Island
