Església de Sant Feliu
Eight Roman and early Christian sepulchers are the main attractions of this Romanesque church with Gothic flourishes. In fact, the two oldest date from the 2nd century a.d. and one shows Pluto carrying Persephone to the underworld. Inside, a chapel contains the remains of city patron Sant Narcís. According to legend, flies escaping from his tomb drove away the French armies during the 1285 siege of Girona. The church itself was built slowly over the 14th to 17th centuries on the spot held by tradition to be the tomb of the 4th-century martyr, Feliu of Africa. The structure is significant in Catalan architectural history because its pillars and arches are Romanesque while the nave is Gothic. Some exceptional works within the church include a 16th-century altarpiece and a 14th-century alabaster statue of a Reclining Christ.
