One of the architectural showpieces of Gothenburg, Kronhusbodarna originally was built in the 1650s; it's the oldest nonecclesiastical building in town. In the 1660s, it was pressed into service as the meeting place for the Swedish Parliament, which convened here hastily to welcome a visit from Charles X Gustav during his wars with Denmark. For many years, the building functioned as a warehouse and repair center for the Swedish military, stockpiling sailcloth and armaments. Today its echoing interior accommodates a number of small-scale and rather sleepy artisans' studios, including a chocolate maker, a goldsmith, and the glass-blowing studio of Helena Gibson, whose trademark is glass she crafts in a heavenly shade of cerulean blue.
