Hotels in Grand Canyon du Verdon
Popular stopovers for people who are exploring the gorges include Castellane, with its streets that are crammed with shops selling outdoor equipment; Trigance, dominated by its medieval castle-turned-hotel; and Moustiers Sainte-Marie, famed for its pottery and for Alain Ducasse. Cheap hotels and B&Bs are underwhelming in the region, but there are some excellent campsites near Castellane. For the district's poshest hotel, look no further than the Bastide de Moustiers.
The beautiful Moulin du Château (tel. 04-92-74-02-47) in St-Laurent du Verdon is worth a detour. This ancient olive mill-turned-hotel provides one of the best stopovers on the way to the Verdon Gorges. In summertime, organic suppers are served to guests outside beneath the shade of a nettle tree.

Yet all feature period furniture and oh-so-pretty Provençal fabrics. Passers-by should make a pit stop at the hotel’s…$$Around Town - Hotel
Terre Blanche
One of Provence’s most famous resorts sits 45 minutes from Nice, 30 minutes from Cannes, and 1 hour from the Gorges du Verdon. Yet there is no distinct reason to leave the confines of your private bungalow or suite. Take a contemporary art tour around the hotel’s sculpture park, or…$$$Around Town
