Hotels in Guiyang

Budget options are difficult to find in Guiyang. Avoid all the touts who congregate on the corner of Jiefang Lu and Zunyi Lu, as the rooms that they offer are dismal. Tucked away on the opposite corner in an alley behind Telecom office is the Yu Jun Yuan Hotel in converted army quarters. On the ground floor, they have some very spartan, concrete-floor rooms that I would dismiss in any other city. Here, though, they represent pretty good value at just ¥80 ($10/£5.20). Choose one of the ex-officers' rooms on the ground floor that have private bathrooms, but do not expect air-conditioning.
