Getting There

The province has only two airports, one in Daegu and the other at Pohang (KPO; tel. 054/289-7399; http://pohang.airport.co.kr), which has four flights a day from Seoul, two each from Asiana Airlines and Korean Airlines. The airport offers buses only to Pohang city, so it's more convenient to fly into Daegu.

The Gyeongbu Rail Line with both high-speed KTX and regular trains runs through the province. The Jung-ang Rail Line also goes through the area, ending at Gyeongju. Connecting lines go from Gimcheon to Yeongju and Daegu to Pohang.

If you're driving, the Gyeongbu Expressway (road 1) goes through the southern part of the province, passing through Daegu and Gyeongju. The Olympic Expressway (road 12) runs southwest from Daegu. The Jung-ang Expressway (road 55) cuts through the middle of the province going through Daegu, Andong, and Yeongju.

You can also take an express bus from Seoul to Andong, Sangju, Gimcheon, Gumi, Daegu, Gyeongju, Pohang, Yeongju, and Yeongcheon. Intercity buses travel all over the province.

The only boats from the province leave from Pohang Ferry Terminal (tel. 054/1600-1877) and go to Ulleung-do.

Getting Around

Local buses from smaller cities and towns take you to outlying areas, but some of them run infrequently to remote or less popular places, so check your return bus schedule and plan accordingly.

Visitor Information

At the Pohang Airport, there is a tourist information booth (9am-7pm weekends and holidays only) on the first floor of the terminal. The Gyeongsangbuk-do website is www.gb.go.kr.
