Restaurants in Haines
Haines has a few consistently good restaurants -- which is a few more than most other Alaska towns this size -- and you can also eat well during the summer at the Hotel Hälsingland.
There are lots of places for a casual meal as well. The best for a hot breakfast is Chilkat Restaurant and Bakery, on 5th Avenue, a block north of Main Street (tel. 907/766-3653). It's a friendly place with cute country decor serving hearty American food and a variety of Thai specials for lunch. Terrific lunches are found at the Mountain Market & Café, a natural food store and cafe at 3rd Avenue and the Haines Highway (tel. 907/766-3340). A primary town hangout and the best espresso stop, it serves hearty and reasonably priced sandwiches, tortilla wraps, soups, and many fresh-baked goods. Pick up a picnic, or stop by for coffee, roasted in-house, or breakfast. The liquor store carries organic wine in its broad selection.

Fireweed Restaurant
This tiny restaurant in a nicely remodeled historic fort building packs in the crowds. They come for pizza that wouldn't be out of place in New York City--thin, crispy crusts topped with tangy homemade sauce and lots of different toppings. The salads, too, are fresh and delicious,…$$Fort Seward - Mexican
Mosey's Cantina
Authentic food made with hand-selected chiles warms up guests in the small dining room of this house with a big porch, south of the fort. The atmosphere is loud and festive, and though the margaritas are made, oddly with wine—they don't have a license for the hard stuff—nobody seems…$Fort Seward - American/Seafood
The Bamboo Room & Pioneer Bar
The halibut and chips are the star of the menu and if you like fish and chips, that's what you should order as they far outshine everything else on this whopping 95-item menu. We're not saying the rest of the food is bad (it isn't), but there's no chef in the world who can get 95…$$Around Town - American/Seafood
The Lighthouse
A local favorite, the Lighthouse boasts some of the best views in town. Don’t worry about the rustic exterior—that really belongs to the dark, historic bar called The Lighthouse that The Lighthouse restaurant is attached to. The inside of the restaurant is bright and modern, with…$$Downtown
