Hotels in Halifax
As with any major urban center, Halifax has an enormous selection of accommodations, including room rentals in private homes through Airbnb for as low as C$33. For other budget listings, beyond those picked here, you’ll find old-fashioned affordable motels like the Stardust at 1067 Bedford Hwy. (tel. 902/835-3316 or 877/472-3316) and the Comfort Inn across the harbor in Dartmouth at 456 Windmill Rd. (tel. 902/463-9900). Both offer rooms starting at about C$140 a night.
A 15-minute walk from downtown, but convenient to bus lines, are Dalhousie University (tel. 888/271-9222 or 902/494-8840) and the University of Kings College (tel. 902/422-1270, ext. 132), both of which rent dorm rooms to the traveling public when school isn’t in session (mid-May to mid-Aug). Most are furnished with plain single beds, but many rooms have private bathrooms and kitchenettes (you have to rent dishes for a small fee), making them an especially good deal for families. Rooms are around C$115 single, C$170 double. Varied-size apartment suites cost somewhat more. Remember, summer demand is high, so book as far in advance as possible. Also note that a 2-night minimum stay is required for some units.
Another option is Mount Saint Vincent University on the Bedford Hwy. It’s on par with Dalhousie and King’s, in terms of room variety, but slightly cheaper at C$76.90 for a single room, C$88.73 for a double and suites starting at C$100.55.
