Planning a trip to Haro
A single train (tel. 90-232-03-20) runs daily from Logroño (trip time 45 min.). There are also a couple of connections daily with Zaragoza (trip time 2.5 hr.). Eight or nine buses per day run between Haro and Logroño, with less frequent weekend service (trip time 40 min.–1 hr). For general bus information, call 94-123-59-83. There are also frequent bus connections to Bilbao several times per day (tel. 90-221-02-15). If you’re driving from Logroño, follow the AP-68 expressway northwest for 25 minutes to the turnoff for Haro.
The tourist office, in the Palacio Bendaña, Plaza de la Paz, 1 (tel. 94-130-35-80), is open June to October, Tuesday to Saturday 10am‒2pm and 4‒7pm, Monday and Sunday 10am‒2pm. The rest of the year it’s open Tuesday to Thursday, and Sunday 10am‒2pm, Friday and Saturday 10am‒2pm and 4‒7pm. Easter week keeps summer hours.
Every June 29, during the San Pedro Festival, the Battle of Wine erupts (see above). It’s an amusing, mock-medieval brawl in which opposing teams splatter each other using wineskins filled with the output from local vineyards.
