The Press Room
This bustling brasserie, located just down the street from Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan, is a great stop for those shopping the many antique stores along Hollywood Road. Taking its name from the fact that a daily Chinese newspaper, Hua Qiao Daily, was printed on this site back in the 1920s, it caters to a trendy crowd with its daily specials written on huge blackboards, raw oysters flown in from around the world, French classics from a newly revamped menu (like coq au vin, braised lamb shank, and Dover sole Grenoblaise—a French sole accented with a sauce of browned butter, capers, parsley, and fresh lemon), a decent wine list, and a selection of artisanal cheeses from next-door Classified, the restaurant's gourmet shop stocked with wines and cheeses imported from small, independent European producers.
