Hotels in Hvar Town are notoriously expensive, but travelers on a tight budget can still get by if they stay in a hostel. There are only about three proper hostels in town, although several families with a few rooms to rent use the term to attract young guests. Green Lizard stands out as a particularly well-run establishment, overseen by two sisters originally from Hvar. The sisters try to give their guests individual treatment, often going out with them for drinks or a meal, so people traveling alone immediately feel involved and not left out. The hostel has a couple of private doubles with en suite bathrooms, as well as bunk beds in dorms, and it’s nice to have both options. There’s a small garden with beanbags, hammocks, and a barbecue, and a friendly atmosphere throughout.
