Historic Streets

Want a quick lesson in Inuvik history and culture? Try walking down the street. Kingmingya ("cranberry") Road and Kugmallit ("local tribe") Road are Inuvialuit names, while Bonnetplume Road refers to a prominent local Gwich'in family. Berger Street was named after the judge appointed to the Mackenzie pipeline inquiry in the 1970s. Early European explorers also get their due: Dolphin, Reliance, and Union streets are named after three ships connected to British explorer John Franklin.
