jöruhúsið

Few seafood lovers have ever walked out of here disappointed. One of Iceland’s classic regional restaurants, Tjöruhúsið, which sits in a 1781 fish warehouse beside the Heritage Museum, has an atmosphere, topped off with bench seating and long wooden tables, that never goes out of style. The menu is simple: Waiter points to the fish on a chart to let you know what is fresh and you pick the preparation. It is served still sizzling in the pan alongside potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, grapes, and lemon slices. The portions are big enough for two.
