Simple: Some mid-level Universal attractions manage crowds by allowing people to sign up for times for their whole party using the official app. If an attraction has a virtual line running, you’ll see that denoted on that attraction’s app page, on the paper maps, or you’ll be informed at its entrance. (If you don’t have a phone, there will be a kiosk by the attraction that will print you a ticket.)

Once you sign up, your phone will notify you when it’s time (you’ll have some leeway if you’re doing something else right then), and when your time passes, you’ll be allowed to get another pass for another ride. You won’t be able to join the queue unless you give the app permission to know your location, because you must be within the gates of the park to participate. For the smoothest result, get your app profiles set up and ready before you go to the park.
