bellwether

We’re not sure what the deal is with Jacksonville’s hip eateries and their penchant for lowercase lettering. At any rate, bellwether is indeed a downtown trendsetter, a sleekly contemporary restaurant (think: subway tile walls and black tables and chairs) with farm-to-table fare that’s veers between straight-forward (and tasty) Southern dishes like shrimp & grits, or cornmeal-dusted trout, to fusion offerings that are off-the-charts creative, but still very flavorful. In the latter category we place a tater tot variation based around kimchi and cheese curds, and addictive chili pepper house-boiled peanuts. Dessert highlights in this vein are the deep-fried carrot cake bread pudding and s’mores cheesecake. There’s an all-day happy hour every Friday from 11am-7pm with all sorts of specials, and regular happy hour on all other days from 4pm to 7pm. bellwether indeed and we’ll forgive the lack of capitalization.
