The landmark island hotel is the luxurious Jekyll Island Club Hotel, 371 Riverview Dr. (tel. 800/535-9547 or 912/635-2600; www.jekyllclub.com), which comes loaded with amenities, pools, restaurants, and golf courses. The original clubhouse opened in 1888, thereafter hosting some of the giants of the Gilded Age. Rooms range $189 to $309.
Jekyll Island Campground, North Beachview Drive (tel. 866/658-3021 or 912/635-3021; www.jekyllisland.com), is managed by the Jekyll Island Authority and is the only island campground in the Golden Isles. On its 18 wooded acres are 206 sites, nestled among live oaks and pines. The facilities include bathhouses, showers, laundry facilities, camping equipment, pure tap water, a grocery store, garbage pickup, propane, and bike rentals. Tent sites cost $23, with hook-up sites available for $28 to $37.
