El Gallo Azul
The “Blue Rooster” is one of the city’s most iconic buildings, designed by the great architect of Sevilla Aníbal González in 1928. Commissioned by the Domecq sherry house, and still sporting neon advertisements for its brands, it houses a fashionable bar and bistro that combines excellent Andalucian fare, cocktail mixology, and sherry. The papelones—mixed charcuterie and cheese boards served on waxed paper—are especially enjoyable, including mojama (cured tuna) and chicken liver paté with truffles. Perfect with a glass of Domecq’s La Ina fino. The restaurant interior features a stylish partial restoration with fixtures and fittings that evoke the grandeur of Jerez’s heyday.
