Hotels in Junin de los Andes

Junín de los Andes has a few lodges that specialize in fly-fishing, such as the Hostería de Chimehuín, Suarez and Avenida 21 de Mayo, on the shore of the Chimehuín River (tel. 02972/491132; $12/£8.20 double). Accommodations are basic, including rooms with balconies and apartments, but the atmosphere is friendly and homey, and it has a good breakfast. An excellent fly-fishing lodge is the San Huberto Lodge, on a picturesque 20km (13-mile) stretch of the Malleo River (tel. 02972/491238; www.sanhubertolodge.com.ar), which charges $185 to $280 (£125-£189) for a double, including all meals. The San Humberto consists of six chalets with twin beds, units that are separate from an enormous, rustic lodge. The restaurant is excellent, and so are the fishing guides. Run by a British expat, the similarly rural Estancia Huechahue (no phone; www.huechahue.com) is a working cattle ranch open to visitors for daylong and overnight horseback trips. Their eight-room main house doubles as a charming inn. Rates are $356 (£240) per guest per night. They also have interesting multiday horseback-riding expeditions that cross the Andes. Cerro los Pinos, Brown 420 (tel. 02972/427207), is a charming family ranch with close access to the Chimehuín River. Doubles are $12 to $28 (£8.20-£19); they'll arrange a fishing guide for guests. Dining options are limited here; try the Ruca Hueney, Milanesio 641 (tel. 02972/491113), which serves pasta dishes, venison and, of course, trout.
