Square One

This local favorite for a quarter century might have a fairly new owner, restaurant veteran Dominique Falkner, but the quality and service are as good as or better than I’ve ever experienced here. Paris-born Falkner is also a chef, and his kitchen team now turns out a creative world fusion tour de force. The Korean-influenced beef short rib “pot-au-feu” is a signature, but I recently loved the seafood lasagna, featuring lobster, shrimp, and crab, and a flavorful Moroccan-spiced veggie tagine. Some folks might appreciate that a number of the menu offerings are marked as vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. Service is impeccable, and although I love the interior makeover, starring the whimsical art of local Marky Pierson, there’s nothing quite like savoring it all while seated out on the plaza.
