Quinta da Pacheca Wine House Hotel

After driving through vineyards enclosed by a bend in the Douro, you enter though a noble stone gate and drive up to the house down an alley shaded by plane trees. The main building is an 18th-century manor at the center of the wine estate. With your stay you get a wine tasting and a tour, taking in the great oak barrels stored in the winery, but will want to try more in the award-winning restaurant. The smallest rooms are 28 square meters (92 square ft) and all come decorated in an uncluttered mix of old and new, with antique prints and natural colors. Some have balconies and four-poster beds. At harvest time guests are welcome to help get in the grapes and to roll up their pants to crush them underfoot. Otherwise there are plentiful walk and bike-ride opportunities. Fifteen minutes from Lamego by car.
