Hala Sultan Tekke
An important place of Muslim pilgrimage, this mosque was built in honor of Umm Haram, the aunt of the Prophet Mohammed, on the site of her death in 649 A.D. Her tomb rests behind railings inside. The white mosque, and in particular its tall minaret, is visible from across Larnaca’s salt lake, which fills with flamingos in winter. The mosque stands in tranquil gardens full of cypress trees and palms.
