Planning a trip to Le Puy-en-Velay

Getting There -- Passengers arriving in Le Puy from anywhere in Europe must change trains at St-Georges d'Aurac. From there, 10 small trains, timed for convenient connections, travel along the 28km (17-mile) spur route that connects Le Puy's railway station to the rest of the lines of the SNCF.  Bus service is of use only in and out of the small villages in the Auvergne. Even buses from Clermont-Ferrand take at least 3 hours to cover the relatively short distance.  If you're driving, the best way to reach Le Puy is from St-Etienne, traveling southwest along N88. From Clermont-Ferrand, drive south along N88 to Lempdes, continuing southeast along N102 to Le Puy.
