Set at the Convent of the Minorites, a monastic order, The Museum of Walloon Life is the most extensive folkloric museum of Belgium, a vast collection too varied for brief description, but conveniently grouped and vividly presented by multi-media effects in each exhibit room; even so grisly a subject as Walloon attitudes towards death and funeral ceremonies becomes utterly absorbing when viewed here. In the basement is a reproduction of a Walloon coal mine, accompanied by a guide delivering an indignant commentary (but in French only) on the hardships endured by 19th-century, Belgian coal miners of the Liege area.
