Dominating the junction of Rua Augusta and Rossio square, the International sits at the bustling heart of Lisbon life. From the vast floor-to-ceiling windows of the bar or the private balconies in suites and superior rooms, visitors have a unique view over the plaza that has been Lisbon's favorite meeting spot for centuries. Originally opened in the 1920s, the hotel received a makeover in 2009. Outside it's still a sumptuous confection of creamy white columns, lilac walls, and intricate wrought-iron railings. Inside, each of the four levels is themed: the "Pop" floor is an explosion of vibrant primary color; "Zen" has relaxing earth tones; "Urban" brings edgy sophistication; and "Tribe" features tasteful ethnic-inspired design. On the top floor there's an art-filled loft space available for business meetings or just chilling. All rooms come equipped with satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, and Nespresso machines. Some of the smallest look out onto a cute interior garden, but most provide a front-row seat for the action in the square below. The corner suite on the Tribe floor boasts two private balconies, a king-size bed, Playstation 3, a whirlpool bath, and a life-size imitation stag's head mounted above the sofa.
