Inhabit Southwick

Inhabit offers a stay centered on sustainability and well-being without levying ludicrous prices to do it. Guests partake (optionally) of benefits such as in-room aromatherapy, an infared sauna, egg-like meditation pods, regular guide yoga sessions, and a staff that has been trained to lead guests in mindfulness exercises. The concept is taken seriously, and it’s as ambitious as it is generous—places like 1 Hotel Mayfair skin guests for £600 a night for its bespoke wellness theme, but here, nightly rates are often merely in the mid-£100s. Inhabit is a townhouse hotel, which means it occupies conjoined 19th-century homes, so rooms are of different sizes and shapes. But they are comfortable and up-to-date, with large beds and easygoing taupe-and-grey décor (although if you’re very tall, we suggest upgrading to a double because the singles are short). The townhouse setup is quintessentially London, and even though this audience is more likely to exercise by climbing stairs, there’s a lift. Inhabit Southwick’s sister property at Queen’s Gardens, a 15-minute walk west, also has a spa and delicious restaurant for vegan/ vegetarian/ sustainable cuisine; guests here can consider those an extended part of the property. The dignity afforded to budget travelers at Inhabit helps redeem the Paddington area as an overnight option; most of its other places to stay don’t even try to be this thoughtful or curated.
