The Firmdale Hotels group mostly operates boldfaced-name hotels in the West End—the kinds of places where scenesters swill designer gin and fashion magazines shoot. Here, though, husband/wife designers/owners Tim and Kit Kemp create one of the loveliest B&B experiences in the city. Expect the trappings of a luxury hotel, only in a series of well-refurbished town houses in an updated English country style. Every available space is adorned with displays of forward-thinking British art from the Kemps’ considerable collection, and all rooms are individually designed and truly beautiful. (Kit even published an interior design coffee table book, A Living Space.) They tempt with come-hither beds laid with more pillows than most people have in their entire homes. In the morning, sunlight pours across the verdant back garden accented by a soothing ornamental pond into the conservatory where afternoon tea is served. If it’s full, try Firmdale’s equally charming Dorset Square Hotel in Marylebone, which charges similar rates.
