It was once the sort of desultory pillow mill favored by shuffling package tours and lost weekends, but this year, Frommer’s declares it’s finally worth a look in. That’s because this dowager has finally gotten wise to its stellar location—right across from the Savoy, beside Covent Garden—by renovating the 1980s right out of the walls and returning it to the land of the living. Rooms are getting sophisticated new looks—the “cosy” ones arewee, windows could be larger, but beds are great and everything isa good value while the hotel’s reputation is being rehabilitated. And, for the first time since its 1908 construction, roomsnow haveair-conditioning. Floor-by-floor renovations are rolling until 2020; to get a good room, ask for “deluxe” or “superior.”
