Boro Bistro

If the aimlessly gawping hordes at Borough Market exhaust you, a relaxing chill-out spot can be found very near the grounds. Downstairs in the brick vaults between the Market and Borough High Street just east of Southwark Cathedral, this European-with-a-pubby-twist bistro is many visitors’ fast favorite for Romanesque atmosphere. Lit by candles that have accumulated wax over countless nights, you dine at funky, weather-beaten wood tables on cocktails, wines, and craft beers; shared platters (Corsican coppa, baked Camembert); burgers (the house version is draped with Comté cheese); and odds-and-ends alternatives (croque monsieur, spicy Parmesan chicken wings, orange salad with mint and red onion). In nice weather, the terrace is ideal for a drink, and in cold weather, there are heaters and fleece blankets.
