Mercato Mayfair

To soothe your Oxford Street shopping breaks, the group behind the original Merato Metropolitano (see below) took over the Neo-Classical St Mark’s church from the 1820s—sanctuary, balconies, and all, with wine and cheese now served in the crypt and an outdoor drinking terrace on the roof where worshipers once directed their prayers. With more than a dozen hot food vendors amid the stained glass and gilt altar, it’s dazzling. If you can’t go for a full meal, at least grab a cocktail on the balcony for the photo. Oddly, door staff confiscates all water bottles when you enter.
