A unique one for the coffee culture fans. They only serve light meals here, but they roast their own beans and the setting is worth a detour: a gourmet coffee/loose-leaf tea cafe in an underground men’s toilet in Fitzrovia. The facilities had been abandoned for 50 years; the conversion was so artful you might not realize it at first: Eight elaborate Doulton & Co. Victorian porcelain urinals are now individual coffee-sipping bays, and an overhead water tank became an unexpected planter. If you’re hungry, try the sea salt caramel brownies or bacon on sourdough with tarragon butter. The coffee’s so good, Attendant has added more locations, but those lack the charm of being in a loo.
