A Little Bit o' Country -- With its red barn facade and easygoing neighborhood vibe, the Brentwood Country Mart, which was built in 1948, has recovered rather nicely from a major face-lift in 2006. It's one of the easiest places to shop in L.A. because so many chic stores are in one spot, and parking is free. Be sure to visit the menswear outpost Apartment Number 9, the upscale beauty shop Marie Mason Apothecary, and Farm Shop (great for bakery items, cured meats and other gourmet goodies). The Mart is located at 225 26th St., just off San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood (tel. 310/451-9877; www.brentwoodcountrymart.com).

A Hollywood Production Worth Checking Out -- Every Sunday from 8am to 1pm, the Hollywood Farmers Market takes place on Ivar Avenue between Hollywood and Sunset boulevards. Along with fresh California-grown produce and flowers, there's plenty of live entertainment, an artisan and crafts fair, and prepared foods from local restaurants. There's even free parking off Vine Street.
