Parador de Fuente Dé

A rare parador not in a historic building, this modern mountain lodge attracts a clientele more interested in the mountains than in imagining themselves as gentry from centuries past. Views are spectacular, so the modern country décor of mixed florals and stripes in the bed linens and curtains and simple wood-and-leather furniture seems unobtrusively appropriate. Even the somewhat smaller rooms in the older wing are spacious enough to spread out a bit. The hotel It sits literally at the end of the road to Fuente Dé; to continue on into the mountains, you have to take the cable car (p. ###) to the ridgeline. In summer, rooms are often filled with hikers and mountain climbers; in the fall, the parador is very popular with hunters, as the hills are full of wild game. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, with a set menu from 30€. To get here, drive 26km (16 miles) west of Potes.
