Most visitors to Los Roques come as part of a package tour or stay at an all-inclusive posada. There are, in fact, very few independent restaurants on Gran Roque. If you're not staying at an all-inclusive posada, or if you want to broaden your culinary horizons on the island, stop in at the Bar & Restaurant Acuarena (tel. 0414/131-1282; www.aquarena.com.ve), which is on the water between the airstrip and Plaza BolĂvar. You can grab a table on the sand and order up some fresh grilled fish, or just spend the night working through their extensive list of cocktails. They also have good breakfasts and lunches, as well as one of the better gift shops on the island. The restaurant is open daily from 6:30am to 11pm, and even has free Wi-Fi. Other options for independent dining include Bora El Mar and Canto de la Ballena.

Note: Lobster season runs November 1 through April 30. Technically, restaurants should not serve lobster outside of the season. If they do, it is either frozen or illegal.
