Brach Madrid

Perhaps Madrid’s coolest hotel, the Brach exemplifies the renewed vibrancy to be found along Gran Vía. It is the work of the legendary French designer Philippe Starck and the Evok chain, who have restored and reworked this 1920s residential palace to capture the spirit of the city’s most famous street in its heyday. Minimalist it ain’t. The guest rooms and public areas are crammed with evocative artifacts and images that read like a nostalgic love letter to Spain. In places it feels more like visiting an historic home than a hotel, but the amenities are top drawer and can be sampled even if you’re not staying the night. You’ll need a reservation for the literary café-style restaurant that’s a magnet for celebrities. But the rooftop cocktail bar and Parisian-style patisserie don’t require reservations, and for the ultimate pamper, you can book a wellness package at the white and gold La Capsule spa, starting at around 200€.
