It is the work of the legendary French designer Philippe Starck and the Evok chain, who have restored and reworked this 1920s residential palace to capture the spirit of the city’s most famous street in its heyday. Minimalist it ain’t. The guest rooms and public areas are crammed with evocative artifacts and images that read like a nostalgic love letter to Spain. In places it feels more like visiting an historic home than a hotel, but the amenities are top drawer and can be sampled even if you’re not staying the night. You’ll need a reservation for the literary café-style restaurant that’s a magnet for celebrities.
