Room Mate Oscar

Set in the gay district of Chueca, this hotel’s imaginary friend is Óscar, who describes himself as “cosmopolitan, night owl, modern, and very friendly.” The thumping beats of the colored-glass lobby give way to spotless, spacious bedrooms, futuristically decked out in lime, orange, and turquoise by designer Tomás Alía. The inside-outside roof terrace is one of Madrid’s most sought-out spots for cocktails, but it gets crowded and the service can suffer. Go early to secure a spot. Soundproofing throughout is excellent—a good thing, because Oscar is a party animal, and so are many of his guests. You’ll see them coming down for breakfast at 11:45am; luckily, the buffet is set until noon.
