Basically a beer hall with food rather than a restaurant with drinks, this spot is our first choice for enjoying the atmosphere of Plaza Mayor without breaking the bank. The tapas and raciones are traditional and dependable. A few slices of fried chorizo, a slice of tortilla Española, maybe a plate of diced potatoes fried with garlic; all you need to make it a meal is a beer. FYI, the draft beer is about half the cost of the bottled suds here, and if you’re really frugal, you’ll eat inside standing up at the bar to avoid the surcharge for table service and the additional surcharge for the plaza.
