You might expect a restaurant on the exclusive Plaza de Oriente crescent right in front of
the Royal Palace to be over-priced and under-motivated, but this famous fish restaurant is consistently excellent and
remarkably good value. You can eat at the formal restaurant or at the more relaxed
taberna, and the fare in both sticks
to the same classic themes: beautifully cooked fresh fish and seafood rice dishes. Sitting out on the
taberna terrace with
a plate of, say, mixed fried fish and then black rice with baby squid
(chipirones) to share, a bottle of cold Albariño in

the ice bucket, and views towards the Palacio Real, is a fine way to spend an afternoon.
