This pastelería on the edge of Puerta del Sol has been a classic hangout for late morning coffees (the merienda) since it opened its doors in 1894. If you can pull yourself away from the exquisitely stocked display cases downstairs, you’ll find a little tearoom upstairs where you can order beautifully made sandwiches, glazed pastries, and ice cream concoctions. The prices are remarkably low, service is superb, and although it’s right on the Puerta del Sol, it is always full of madrileños.
