Not to be confused with the upscale suburban Basque restaurant Txacoli, this tapas bar with two rooms down the street from each other has a winning formula of inexpensive but excellent Basque wine served with inexpensive but delicious Basque tapas. The most popular plates are brochettes of squid, cod, or beef sirloin tips, while the most expensive is the “Bomba”—a heap of mashed potatoes studded with meat and swimming in mushroom gravy. You’ll have to muscle your way to the bar to order, then back through the crowd to a place to eat standing up.
