Things To Do in Malpais and Santa Teresa

The most popular bar in the area is Coco Loco ★ (tel. 6097-2557), right on the beach in Malpaís. It features a mix of live bands and DJs, with weekly reggae and Latin nights, as well as a monthly full moon party. Thursday nights in Santa Teresa belong to the punk-ska-reggae band that holds forth at Kika (tel. 2640-0408). Also in Santa Teresa, La Lora Amarilla (tel. 2640-0134) is a classic local nightspot that heats up on Saturday night, when the locals come to dance salsa and merengue.

Tipsy Wine Shop  (tel. 8462-5799), which is also an importer, is perhaps the best wine and spirit shop in Costa Rica, with hard to find organic and natural selections, as well as mezcals, other small batch spirits, craft beer, and cheeses.
