The two main thoroughfares traversing the mill district are Commercial and Canal streets, both of which parallel the river. To explore on foot, leave your car at the small waterfront park beneath the bridge at Bridge Street. On the hillside above the mill area, you can still see a range of housing. Workers lived in the tenements, while their bosses occupied the more stately homes -- all of them just walking distance from the mills.
