The hotel version of a Ralph Lauren advertisement, this stately inn in the center of town has a hushed quality about it. The rooms are full of intriguing antiques and knickknacks, elaborate boudoir sets and statuary. The rooms are all completely distinct. Take room 14: You enter through mahogany doors to an elegant accommodation with a fireplace and a baby grand. It’s time travel, Vineyard-style. The inn’s fine-dining restaurant, The Terrace at the Charlotte Inn, is set in the conservatory dining room and out on the adjacent terrace. Local fare from the island’s farms and fishermen is enlivened with French and Italian preparations.
