About 3 miles south of Wailuku lies the tiny village of Waikapu, which has an attraction that’s worth exploring. There’s plenty to do here: shop for locally made souvenirs, learn how to husk a coconut, gawk at the longhorn cattle, and zoom on a zipline over the plantation’s lush landscape. Relive Maui’s past by taking a 40-minute narrated tram ride around fields of pineapple, sugarcane, and papaya trees at a working plantation. Tram tours start at 10am and leave about every 45 minutes. The grounds are fantastically landscaped with tropical plants and sculptures made from repurposed sugarcane-harvesting equipment. The Mill House restaurant offers exceptional, inventive cuisine for lunch and dinner (open 11am–9pm).
