Muzej Međimurja Čakovec
On the edge of town, set amid carefully tended parkland, sits Zrinski Castle, the largest medieval fortification in the county. Today’s structure is an elegant, white Baroque castle, rebuilt after an earthquake destroyed the previous castle in 1738. The original builders were the Zrinksis, a powerful noble family who played an important role in defending the region from the Ottoman Turks. The building was converted to a museum in 1954 and now exhibits local costumes, paintings, and sculpture.
