C.H. Nash Museum at the Chucalissa Archaeological Site

The Chucalissa Archaeological Museum is built on the site of a Mississippian-period (A.D. 900–1600) Native American village. Dioramas and displays of artifacts discovered in the area provide a cultural history of Mississippi River Valley Native Americans. The reconstructed village includes family dwellings, a shaman’s hut, and a chief’s temple atop a mound in the center. Walking through a real archaeologist’s trench and exploring a Native American village thrills kids. Note: The drawback of this site is it’s rather isolated, but for those interested in Native American history, it’s worth the effort. Allow 1 to 2 hours.
