Goner Records

Take a stroll through Cooper-Young and you’ll stumble across this homegrown late-1970s-style record shop where punk, funk, rock, and R&B coexist. Flip through bins of vinyl LPs, old 45s, and CDs for affordably priced finds like late Delta-blues great Junior Kimbrough’s releases on the Fat Possum label. Sun, Stax, Volt, Loverly, and Goner are among the better-known Memphis-label rarities here, and the shop also sells turntables. It doubles as an indie record company that has released albums by King Khan & BBQ Show and the late Jay Reatard. The shop is also the mastermind of Gonerfest, a popular alternative regional music event in September.
