Loews Miami Beach Hotel

The Loews is one of the largest hotels on South Beach, sitting on an unprecedented 900 feet of oceanfront. This 790-room behemoth is considered an eyesore by many, an architectural triumph by others, but whatever you consider it, it has outlived many a hipper hotel. And it still makes our list because, for such a huge hotel, service is exceptional. That being said, rooms are a bit boxy and bland, showing some signs of wear and tear; and you’ll often have to steer your way past hordes of conventioneers in the lobby. Once you’re outside that may not matter, however, as this place is all about the pool and beach. The former is massive, with an undisputedly gorgeous, landscaped entrance that’s more Maui than Miami and direct beach access. The beach features a private play area for kids (making the adult areas that much more peaceful); and parents can enroll their offspring in the Loews Loves Kids program while they take part in fun adult activities, sponsored by Loews, such as Dive-in Movies at the pool, salsa lessons, and bingo. On the dining front: an outpost of NYC’s impossible-to-get-in red sauce Italian joint Rao’s has opened here, but the allure of Manhattan is completely gone so it’s just Rao’s in name only. A new spa, Sea Spa, opened in 2023—try the fizzy berry body treatment and thank us later. Pets are welcome at $50 per stay. Tip: Rooms facing away from Collins Avenue are much quieter.
