National Hotel Miami Beach
Although its once more popular, more fabulous neighbors (Delano, Raleigh, Shore Club) are now shuttered or in various states of disrepair and/or renovation, this adults-only, Art Deco landmark remains a solid stay. That’s especially true for those seeking location, location, location (directly on the beach and in the heart of South Beach)—and a fabulous pool—the beach’s longest infinity pool, in fact. Back in the day, 2005, specifically, Mariah Carey performed live there for the MTV VMAs. Today the hotel is much quieter, with 137 revamped rooms with exotic hardwood furniture, chrome-accented consoles, and thoroughly modern bathrooms with terrazzo floor showers, paying homage to that Deco-design. Their delightfully retro martini bar, Bar 1939, and Spanish restaurant, Mareva 1939, are swanky and the hotel hosts fun events year round, including movie nights, wine tastings, and puppy brunches (pet stays doable with a $150 fee). The only drawback to a visit here is that they sell pool day passes to locals and non-hotel guests. But because it is adults-only, they’re usually well behaved.
