The Tony
Way back when, during the original South Beach renaissance of the late 90s, fashion designer Todd Oldham whimsically restored this 1939 gem (formerly the Tiffany Hotel) as he would have restored a vintage piece of couture. He laced it with lush, cool colors, hand-cut mirrors, and glass mosaics from his studio, while preserving the terrazzo floors and porthole windows. In 2022, the hotel formerly known as The Hotel was renamed after visionary Tony Goldman, the man largely responsible for that original South Beach renaissance as well as the one in Wynwood. While the place isn’t tony like its namesake, it is a welcome respite from the cheesiness that has plagued the surrounding area in recent years. The small, soundproof rooms are very comfortable and awash in blues, yellows, and browns evocative of sea, sun and sand, though the bathrooms are a bit cramped. Some 20 oceanfront rooms and 2 850-square-foot oceanfront terrace suites are located a block away above the recently resurrected News Café. For the best views, head up to the rooftop, where a small pool and bar are located, and you’ll have an amazing view of the Atlantic. The Oldham-designed lobby bar is a retro-fabulous, Insta-worthy throwback to the pre-commercialized days of South Beach. A cool perk here—free VIP access to Wynwood Walls (), one of the Goldman family’s most fabulous contributions to Miami.
